How do I block a user on Messages for Mac?

0

I'm on 10.14. With the current version of Messages on my Mac laptop, you're supposed to be able to block users like so:

  1. Messages > Preferences

  2. Click on iMessage

  3. Click on Blocked

  4. Click on +

  5. Select user from Address Book

I get to step 5, but when I select the user, nothing happens. This is true whichever user I select. I've confirmed this happens on multiple machines.

Is the software just broken?
