argon2 variable runtime, possible bug?

0

I am running the following argon2 command in my machine (Ubuntu 18.04 with all latest patches installed, Dell 5590, i5-8250U, 16 GB RAM):

time echo -n H0D8ktokFpR1CXnubPWC8tXX0o4YM13gWrxU0FYOD1MChgxlK/CNVgJSql50IQVG82n7u86MEs/HlXsmUv6adQ==
| argon2 7arK1I2rd+ewyzBGgUyUjlMQerVISmo/i57QAq2kyFI= -id -t 4000 -m 14 -p 8 -l 128 -r

I would expect this command takes always roughly same time.

However, every second machine start or so, the command takes more than 1 minute, and around every other second machine start or so, the same command takes around 20 seconds.

CPU/RAM are not used by other time consuming things when I run these tests.

The -id option depends on password.
I verified the behavior is reproducible for same password/salt.

ldd /usr/bin/argon2
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007ffcaf133000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007f29c1b39000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x00007f29c1748000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007f29c1f64000)

Any ideas?
