less, clearing screen and “page down” on Babun / Cygwin / zsh
I use "babun" on Windows 10 for Cygwin. The shell is zsh
and my terminal is mintty
. All options are on their defaults.
If I do not add "-X
" to less
, then it clears the screen before and after showing me the output. This means that any data is lost from my terminal history after exiting the pager, which annoys me. I would like to be able to refer back to the output.
If I do add "-X
" to less
, then "page up" and "page down" no longer work in less
, but apply to the whole terminal instead (i.e. I cannot page down, and if I page up, the terminal scrolls up past the start of the less
output rather than scrolling up inside less).
Is there any way to do both things at once, or do I have to choose between the two?
Thanks in advance!
terminal cygwin zsh less mintty

can you check if with bash you have the same problem ? In a standard Cygwin with bash I do not see such behaviour.
