Can't connect to a local network

0

I am trying to connect a computer that used to be wired to the internet.
I tried with 3 adapters : Linksys AE3000 Dlink 160 and Dlink 140, at first none weren't recognized by the computer - but after a few restarts and tries, the computer finds them.
Then, none of them couldn't find the network, or any nwtwork for that matter (the former computer that was there had a strong connection, I live in an appartment and there are many networks around), and when I troubleshoot, I get "unexpected error" on both adapters.
I tried for hours, now I'm desperate.

  • my wireless network adapters can be detected in Device Manager with its full name displayed, but in the taskbar, it shows the WiFi logo darkened.

  • I tried turning off the antivirus (Zonealarm)

  • Obviously I tried installing drivers

OS: Windows 7 Home 64-bit
