How do I get Firefox to ignore the content type and use the extension to open a file?

I am often emailed links to files on an internal website. These files all have a ".p4r" extension. When I click on the link, Firefox (v63) prompts me to download the file. I am not given the opportunity to specify a helper application.

The HTTP header for these files is misconfigured as text/plain, even though the files are really just zip files in disguise:

HTTP/1.1 200 Document follows
MIME-Version: 1.1
Server: NetApp//8.2.3P6
Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2018 16:47:55 GMT
Content-Length: 34443529
Content-Type: text/plain
Last-Modified: Thu, 15 Nov 2018 13:33:40 GMT
X-RBT-SCAR: 10.20.160.88:271585880:1000

The Firefox "applications" preferences panel does not include any way for me to add new file extensions.

How can I tell Firefox to open a specific application for .p4r files?
