Dates merged into Word from Excel don't function as needed; dd/mm/yy treated as mm/dd/yy

To preface,
This issue is taking place within a business. The only changes I can make thanks to the set-up for the documents are ones within the Word document. Despite working within the UK, the IP Address is considered in the United States, which MAY be the issue.
The problem:
Dates pulled in from an Excel file, despite being formatted as dd/mm/yy, despite Word formatting the date as dd/mm/yy, and despite having the region date format set as dd/mm/yy, are still being treated as mm/dd/yy for calculation or format purposes.
Example:
When I try and change a date, say 12/07/2013, to 12 July 2013, it appears as 7 December 2013. This doesn't occur for dates with a day over 12, for example 27/04/2015, which correctly changes to 27 March 2015 because there is no 13th or onwards month.
Even when trying to manipulate the date the calculations do not work as intended. One document could have the wording changed so instead of using the start of a month, it could use the end of the previous month, which would force the correct formatting once changed to a longer format. But taking a day off of 01/09/2012, and even specifying {dd}-{mm}-{yy} in the field code, the date becomes 08/01/2012, rather than 31/08/2012. This is because the calculation is firstly identifying "09" as the day before changing the formatting.
I am unsure how to resolve this problem, as I cannot find a way to modify the logic of Word to treat the date in a UK format properly rather than giving a US date the "appearance" of a UK date, which is insufficient for calculations or formatting changes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution found. Other users had reported ticking an option within "File -- Options -- Advanced" saying "Confirm File Format Conversion on Open. As this option was already ticked for me, I thought that this was not the issue. However, what I did not realise was that after that option was ticked, the file needed to be relinked to the Excel document the data was being pulled from using "Select Recipients". It then asks which data source to pull data from, click "Select All" and then select "Microsoft Excel (*.xls) via DDE" and Save. Word is now handling the dates in the correct manner.
