Ruth Chatterton

Ruth Chatterton (New York, 24 dicembre 1892 – Norwalk, 24 novembre 1961) è stata un'attrice e sceneggiatrice statunitense.

Biografia |

Iniziò la sua carriera artistica debuttando a teatro a Broadway, nel 1914 con Papà Gambalunga, che le diede un grande successo. Continuò a calcare le scene fino al 1925, anno in cui dedicò la sua attività al cinema. Interpretò svariati film, tra cui Madame X per la cui interpretazione ottenne una nomination agli Oscar nel 1930 quale miglior attrice.

Dal dopoguerra si dedicò alla scrittura di sceneggiature per la televisione ed il teatro.

Vita privata |

Si sposò tre volte. La prima con l'attore inglese Ralph Forbes (1904–1951): il matrimonio, celebrato il 20 dicembre 1924 finì in un divorzio il 12 agosto 1932. Appena impugnata la sentenza di divorzio, l'attrice sposò il giorno seguente l'attore George Brent (1904–1979), suo partner anche sullo schermo. Anche questa unione finì, non molto tempo dopo, con un divorzio il 4 ottobre 1934. Dal 1941 al 1960, la data della sua morte dovuta a un'emorragia cerebrale, Ruth Chatterton restò sposata con Gordon John Barry Thomson, il suo terzo marito.
