How to turn on Recycle Bin on veracrypt volume in windows 8

0

I am using veracrypt with an encrypted file on an USB stick, mounting that as volume M in Windows 8.1.

There is a M:$Recycle.Bin, so I thought that files I delete with Windows Explorer should go into the recycle bin. Instead, Windows always asks whether to delete the file permanently.

How can I turn on the recycle bin on the veracrypt volume?

The recycle bin icon on the desktop will show only other drives, neither the USB stick nor the veracrypt volume M, in its properties.

Interestingly, the M:/$Recycle.Bin is a folder that only contains four (4) embedded folders which read "Papierkorb" (German for recycle bin). All four show the same files, with original locations on volumes C and D (regular drives).

  • If M is flagged as removable, there will be no recycle bin.
