How do I get one cell to reference two other cells, so its selections change off those two?

0

I am making a write up sheet for my company for employees. They want me to make it as simple as possible to stop errors. I need help with the employee name selection. Basically, there is 3 positions (driver, vault, messenger) When I select a driver, I only want it to allow drivers to be selected and so on. Also, there are about 240 branches. So in the end I want to select a branch and then a position and under the Employee Name column, it will only have employees under that branch and position selected previously. Like, if I select the Detroit Branch and Driver position, only drivers under Detroit should be available.

P.S. I am already familiar with creating drop down boxes and have all my data needed, I just don't know the formula to enter under Employee Name to Reference Branch and Position at the same time. I do know how to do it for just Branch or position.

Any help would be appreciated. I attached a screen shot of the columns.

Part of the spreadsheet.

not 100% sure what your question is, I think you need to look into Indirect dynamic drop downs

  • I will look into that. I already have my spreed sheet allowed to select the Branch, Position, and Employee name. After I select the Branch and Position, I only want employees from that branch and position to come up, so you cannot choose any other position or anyone from another branch. Like if i select Detroit and Driver, when I go to select employee it only gives me options of drivers from Detroit.

  • Sorry I did not mention, my spreadsheet already has Employee name dependent on the Branch selected. I want it to be dependent and Branch and Position. These articles only show how to make it dependent off 1 cell but not two cells at the same time. Unfortunately these do not work.

  • This covers multiple dropdowns all cascading into each other
