qemu guest serial output to console of host
I have been searching for a solution for some time now and where I have found several threads that seem to have helped other people, those solutions do not seem to work for me. I would like to start a qemu guest via cmdline and have the output of the guest serial port in the terminal that started the quest. Details; host=ubuntu 18.04, guest=debian 9. The ISO i used to create the guest was debian-9.6.0-i386-netinst.iso. I used normal install but with no desktop. I hid the grub loader screen and it boots to the username prompt. I have tried many different options from various threads including "-nographics -serial stdio -append and others" the append gave me a kernel error and depending on the combination of switches I have had some errors, but most often the terminal just sits there and blinks. I have changed the debian grub as many people have suggested on other threads, I will attach the grub config. After modifying the grub I did do a update-grub.
Here is my grub config:
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFUALT="console=ttys0 console=tty0"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="console=tty0 console=ttys0,9600n8"
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true
here is the cmd I am currently using to start qemu
qemu-system-i386 -hda deb.qcow2 -m 1024 -net nic -net user -serial stdio
I am not sure if the problem is in the host, the guest or the cmd to start it. Any assistance would be great. Thank you in advance.
