Can't connect to OpenWRT after LAN IP type changed from static to dhcp
I'm having difficulty with basic network connectivity on OpenWRT 18.06.1.
The router is a Netgear R8000, and for now, I'm ignoring WiFi completely (it's not configured nor do I want to configure it yet). So it's effectively set up as a wired IPv4 LAN switch only.
It's working fine as a crude basic switch, but is using an incorrect static IP (10.x.x.x/8). So I changed the LAN from "static" to "dhcp" (also in the same 10.x.x.x/8 subnet). At that point I lost connectivity and couldn't connect via either the old or new IP. Fortunately I could recover, but I don't understand the problem or how to work around it.
My DHCP server log shows the R8000 makes a DHCPDISCOVER request and gets a "sensible"/"expected" IP via DHCPOFFER assigned back to it. But after that, I can't ping, SSH, or reach the Web UI on the assigned IP.
I've never set any firewall settings on the R8000, as it's LAN is purely configured as a bridge. I don't have any firewalls or VLANs that could cause packets to drop. The only change I made was from "static" to "dhcp" on lan, both giving IPs in the same 10.0.0.0/8 subnet. So I am at a loss why the R8000, having requested and been given a lan IP, and having been able to login before that change, I can't login immediately after it.
