OpenVPN can't establish connection on Ubuntu 18.4

My OpenVPN credentials work on Windows 10 but I am having difficulty connecting from Ubuntu 18.4.
It is simply reporting that the connection failed on Ubuntu. The config files, cert and key are all the same as on Windows. The config is being picked up okay. It is failing to connect to the gateway server, for some reason.
I'm using OpenVPN 2.4.x on both OSs.
